My verdict: the best compromise for those who want to leave Paris in a small group and spend time at the water garden rather than on a coach. Hotel pickup, 5 hours total, around 110 minutes at the water lily pond, rated 4.7 out of 844 reviews. How the visit works
The minibus picks you up at your hotel, or you can join the group in front of Café La Flamme—the one with the black façade—at 6 avenue de Wagram. The transfer takes about an hour. With around ten people on board, the guide speaks without a microphone and answers questions along the way, which doesn’t happen on a coach.
The on-site program is the most unbalanced of the six options, and that’s by design: around 110 minutes at the water garden, around the pond, the Japanese bridge, and the water lilies, then about 20 minutes in the Fondation Monet Giverny for the house and the flower garden, its arches, and its hundred varieties, followed by a quarter of an hour at Claude Monet’s grave. If you’re coming for the water lilies between late June and September, this breakdown works. If you’re coming for the inside of the house, twenty minutes will leave you wanting more—especially since skip-the-line access to the house isn’t included: in high season, there can be a wait at the door.
No free time is scheduled in the village beyond this program, and lunch isn’t included. You’ll be back in Paris five hours after departure.
